Leading the Atlantic Diving Team is Olympic Coach Osvaldo Pito Alberty and he brings his knowledge to the pool deck and introducing the young kids to the sport of diving and develop the next generation of divers and champions. But there was a time not long ago when Coach Pito was a magician in midair.
Osvaldo Pito Alberty brings a wealth of diving experience and history to Martin County as he lead one of the nation's most prestigious diving programs. He is the Head Diving Coach of the Beginner, Development, Junior Olympic programs.
As a diver, Coach Pito resume is highlighted by appearances in the Fin Grand Prix, Puerto Rico National Championship, Fina/Alamo Grand Prix, World Championship, Pan American Games Championship, and a 1996 Olympic Games Qualifier as a member of the Puerto Rico Olympic Diving Team.
Unfortunately, a year before the Olympic Games, one week after qualifying for the Olympics, Coach Pito started experiencing flu-like symptoms, a high fever and muscle weakness. Within a week he was paralyzed from the neck down. He was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) a rare disorder where the body’s immune system damages nerve.
Coach Pito’s dream was shader by the diagnose he received. He was looking forward to Represent Puerto Rico at the Olympic Games with his sister Vivian Alberty as a diver and his father Osvaldo Alberty (Mr. A) as the Olympic Coach for Puerto Rico. Coach Pito, Vivian and Mr. A would have been the first Olympic family representing Puerto Rico in Diving.
After months and years getting back to health and getting most of his body motions back, Coach Pito fire and love that he has for the sport of diving started coaching again right beside his mentor two-time Olympic silver medalist, Michele Mitchell founder of the Atlantic Diving Team.
Coach Pito took over the Atlantic Diving Team back in 1999 and has been the Director/Head Coach till this day. Pito has been coaching and creating champions since 1999 by passing his knowledge that he has collected from his coaches and top coaches from all over the world. Pito is enthusiastic to keep teaching and crating the next generation of divers and champions right here in Martin County.
